 Dal makhani
Dal Makhani is an authentic Punjabi dish. It is rich, creamy, spicy and delicious and goes well with matar pulao or jeera 
rice . I have also added some grated cheese to give it a smooth creamy texture.


Ingredients for Dal Makhani -
1 cup whole black lentil ( urad dal)
1/4 cup small kidney beans ( rajma )
1 tsp cream
2tsp butter
2 bay leaves
1 big cardamom
1 tea spoon cumin seeds ( jeera)
2 medium onion chopped
2 medium tomatoes chopped
1/2 inch ginger, 5-6 cloves garlic and one green chilly paste
1 tea spoon turmeric powder
1 tea spoon red chilly powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
salt to taste
pinch of asafoetida
2 cube Amul cheese grated


For garnish -
1 table spoon cream
 green coriander chopped


Recipe : Soak the black dal and rajma for overnight. Cook it in pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles.
Heat butter in a pan, add jeera, bay leaves, and cardamom , add hing when they crackle, add chopped onion , stir for 2 minutes, add garlic ginger paste, stir till the butter leaves the paste. 
Add red chili, turmeric and garam masala powder, stir, add chopped tomatoes, stir and cover with a lid till the tomatoes get cooked.
Remove lid add the boiled dal, grated cheese, salt to taste and boil for 10 minutes, add cream cook for 2-3 minutes. 
Garnish with coriander leaves and cream and serve hot with pulao or rice.
