Chole is a famous dish of Punjab & North, but prepare almost in every home. Chickpea prepared with onion garlic paste and lot of spices. Goes well with Bhature,puri & rice.

Ingredients :
1 cup chole soaked overnight
2 onions
2 tomato puree
1/2 inch ginger
1 green chili
5-6 garlic cloves
green coriander leaves
1 tea spoon tea
1 tea spoon red chili powder
1 tea spoon coriander powder
1/2 tea spoon turmeric powder
1/2 tea spoon garam masala
salt to taste
2 tbsp Refined oil
pinch of asafoetida
1/2 tea spoon cumin seeds
Recipe : Cook the soaked chole with a teaspoon of tea tied in a cloth for 2-3 whistles. 
Make a coarse paste of onion, garlic, ginger and green chili. heat oil in a pan. 
Add cumin seeds, when they crackle add asafoetida and onion paste and stir fry till the oil gets separated from the paste, add all the spices, stir, add tomato puree and fry till the oil gets separated from the paste. 
Add chole , 1 tbsp water and cook for 7-8 minutes. 
If you want to serve it with bhuture , garnish with green coriander leaves and serve. 
If you want to serve it with rice, add 2 cup warm water, instead of 1 tbsp water, mash some chole to make a fine gravy and cook for 8-10 minutes, garnish with green coriander leaves and serve hot.
Note : you can also use chole masala instead of garam masala, but it contains dry mango powder not good for health, so I avoid it.
