Red chawli ( black eyed peas red ) recipe is an instant pot recipe.  Best healthy and quick recipe when you have less time for cooking.
Red chawli is very low in calories and high in fiber. It is fat free and full of nutrients like magnesium, calcium and iron. It is also rich in protein.
Earlier, I have shared three different recipes of black eyed peas white, like lobia gravy, lobia dahi vada, lobia methi dhokla which were liked very much. We can also make Dahi vada with red chawli. I am sharing the link of those recipes at the end of recipe, in case you have missed those recipes.
Red chawli also tastes very good, so all will like to eat it. It is not very hard, so no overnight soaking is required. But if you can soak it for an hour, it will get cooked quickly otherwise you need 4 to 5 whistles. If you are a working women, you can make the paste at night and refrigerate it, so in the morning you will need just 10 minutes to prepare it. Red chawli goes well with jeera rice and raita. So, let us start the recipe.

Recipe cuisine - Indian

Recipe course -Main ( lentil )

Preparation time - 15 minutes

Servings - 2 to 3

Recipe ingredients:
1 cup Red chawli ( black eyed red beans )
1 big onion
1 green chili
4-5 garlic cloves
1/2 inch ginger ( optional)
1 medium tomato
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander cumin powder
1/4 teaspoon garam masala
salt to taste
1 tbsp refined oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
pinch of asafoetida
1 glass water

Recipe instructions:

Soak the red chawli in water for an hour.
Finely chop the tomatoes. Remove the skin of onion,garlic and ginger. Remove the cap of green chili and chop them.
Now make a coarse paste of all these in a grinder or chopper.
You can make this paste in advance and refrigerate it to save time.
Heat 1 tbsp refined oil in a pressure cooker.
Add cumin seeds, when they crackle, add pinch of asafoetida and then onion garlic paste and saute on low flame till it leaves oil.
Keep the flame low.

Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin coriander powder, garam masala and salt to taste and mix well.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook stirring till they are done.
Finally add the red chawli and mix well.
Add a glass of water and cover the lid and pressure cook it for 4 whistles.
You can add some more water according to the consistency of gravy required by you.
Cook for 5 to 6 whistles if you have not soaked the Chawli before cooking.
Delicious and healthy, Instant pot red chawli is ready in a short span of time.
Serve with jeera rice or plain rice.
